On path of Lord’s Road of Rouergue, it’s certainly one of South Aveyron heritage best place.

History

Château de Montaigut

Montaigut is a medieval castle built in 10th century.
 
In 15th century, the new owner improves the building, doubling its size, adding more comfort in bedrooms and toilets, modern kitchen and a fountain device…
Are improved security and safety of the site….(new angle tower, walls and loopholes…)
 

Visits

During your visit you will see restored rooms and people living use as ancient time. 
Games and deguisements are organized in the castle for children (not only), like « enchanted door » performed outside the castle giving access to a « treasure ».

Around the castle you will found on your way :

–  An exhibition on the plaster industry at Montaigut

– An exhibition about the country life in Aveyron in 1914

– Former agricultural engines and vehicles

– A chapel

– Walks on different themes like plaster or geology

Beneath the castle, we invite you to see the medieval garden, situated near by the « cave de Fontbonne », actually old source of water, used between the 10th and 12th century.

From November to Easter :
2.30 pm to 6.30 pm from monday to friday
Between April (Easter) and  June 30th
10 am. to 12 and 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm everyday
July & August :
10 am to 7 pm everyday
From September to November:
10 am to 12  and 2.30 pm to  6.30 pm everyday
(closed during christmas holidays)

Entrance fee

Children between 3 and 5 : 1€
Children between 6 and 12: 3€
Adults: 8€
              6 €  between November and March
Groups (10 people, with reservation only): 6€
              4€ between November and March 
 Included  Games and costumes, murder games excluded  ( 8€)
